THE.NEOPRONOUNS BENREY <333 uhm,,, personally i have a LOT of headcanons but a major one is that he does not like they/them pronouns bc it reminds him of his time as an experiment in black mesa where they refused to address him as anything but a project

!!! okay am i allowed to MAJOR lore dump abt this bc i have never talked about all my headcanons (based on past memories) with anyone ever

OKAY SO black mesa was originally attempting to create the perfect human being to integrate into society, but bc they were working with the military for funding and using Xen DNA, the experiments were always messed up they made exactly 4237 experiments, with Bubby, Darnold, Gordon and Benrey being part of these in chronological order for some reason they could only produce XX chromosomes, so all the male projects are trans :) anyways, gordon ended up being bubby and dr coomer's son but military pulled a whoopsie and stole him to experiment on him and so he grew up with benrey as project #4236 (gordon) and #4237 (benrey) the numbers are printed on the backs of projects at the base of the spine (1/?)

(TW for: depictions of violence, torture, trauma,s.xual assault etc.) shock therapy was used as a form of torture for the experiments specifically for benrey, as his regenerative ability can't repair damage done by electrical currents his powers include: sweet voice, regenerative healing at will (meaning he can choose not to heal a wound and let it leave a scar) which overencompasses his respawn, because his body simply puts the pieces back together slowly from a skeleton, and brief teleportation he can't teleport anytime he wants because it sucks a lot out of him but he does it from time to time for comedic effect and/or in a stressful situation benrey also has little cat feet instead of human ones :) benrey was trained to be a security guard through very violent training, ie. the soldiers would beat him to death and then watch him grow back until he could do it fast enough (2/?)

(this is a past memory of mine) they at one point (pre his transition) assaulted him in a very violating manner and he has never rlly recovered from it at a certain point, black mesa "fixes" all their projects so benrey has a long scar on his back where they removed his *insert baby making machine here* (it left a scar because in order to do the surgery they need him not to heal naturally) he also has top surgery scars by choice uhmmmm that is rlly all i have sorry for the gruesome benrey backstory lol OH YEAH UHM he's Xen blood :) he was originally made as a vessel for Xen transferring to Earth by brainwashing scientists into creating him so on Xen when he did the big bad it was just his DNA influencing his emotions into lashing out i wrote a fanfic on it :)!!! you can find me on tumblr @leroysbootz (or leroyzboots whichever one i cant remember ) and the fic is called "you and i are trying, together"
