LinkChapter 8
Otterkit was sleeping in her nest, finally getting some peace and quiet away from Ghostkit’s coughing. He wheezed, and wheezed. It was a horrid sight that not even his mother could see. Otterkit woke up, annoyed. Beedew glanced across her den, and saw the nursery. Until the Warriors, Leader, and Deputy den, their den was low in the ground. Beedew huffed, “Get your mother.” She had a sour expression suited on.
Otterkit muttered silently as she prodded Whitesnow in the side. Beedew bounded towards the nursery, standing above the pretty Queen. The white she-cat opened her eyes. “Hello?”
“Ghostkit is bad.”
“What has he done?”
“Nothing. He's just ill. Really ill. He can’t hold anything solid down.”
The Queen blinked down at her kit.
“You NEED to nurse Ghostkit.”
Whitesnow nodded, nugging the tom to her belly with her nose. Ghostkit yowled in a small whimper. “Come on Ghostkit.” Ghostkit weakly began to suckle.
On the other side of camp, Sandfur was talking with Mushroomeye.

Link“C’mon…” Mushroomeye groaned, “We need to get this portal over.”
Sandfur huffed as he got up. “I mean, it has been a while since we have had a patrol- Ever since the storm.”
“It’s still our duty.” She huffed, sounding like Stingfoot. Sandfur only gave a flick of his tail as he padded out of the camp. The sky was gray and the wind felt cold. The ground below was a soggy damp sludge. The wind howled into their pelts as they made their way to the Fadedclan border. Sandfur dipped his head down.
“Stale.”
“I think I see a good vole over there.” Mushroomeye commented. Sandfur glanced around.
“There’s no Fadedclan patrol.”
“Don’t you do it.”
“Why not? No cat will know.”
“I’ll tell Stingfoot.
The two Leafclan cats caught a new scent as Nightfur, Corktail, and Gingerfur came into view. Mushroomeye hissed, “Let’s leave, NOW, Sandfur.”
The black and ginger she-cat, Gingerfur, walked up to the border. “What are you two doing here?”
“Border control.” Mushroomeye said, stone eyed.

LinkThe she-cat eyed Sandfur. “You weren’t planning on hunting here, were you?”
“No. Just checking and redoing our borders.”
“I would hope not.” Nightfur spat.
“Tch. Best we leave, right Sandfur?”
“We should mark the borders first.”
“Fine…” She did so. The Fadedclan cats glared at them as they padded away. Mushroomeye huffed as she threw dirt into their territory with a flick of her paw. Sandfur only twitched his ear.
“Let’s go…”
“Sure.”
Swiftly, they ran to their sleeping camp. Stormpelt was glaring at Stingfoot, his hackles raised.
Mushroomeye glare sharply at Stormpelt, “What are you doing?!”
The gray tom flicked his tail towards the Leafclan Deputy. “I heard him saying that my kit won’t even survive more than a week!”
“Look at him! He’s just an ant!” He yowled.

LinkStormpelt’s fur puffed up. “Just ‘cause he’s small doesn’t mean anything!”
“He can barely eat! He’ll never be a good Warrior!”
Stormpelt lashed his tail and growled deeply.
“Now. Go get on with the hunting party I originally assigned you.”
The gray tom stayed where he was, glaring at the deputy some more, than stalking out of the camp. Mushroomeye nuzzled the deputy and heaved a sigh. Otterkit was peering out from behind the entrance of the nursery. She glanced back at her small brother. He was at rest, nuzzled at his mother’s paws. Is he really going to die? She thought silently. Beedew scooped the kit up.
“I’m sorry little one… Go away…”
“But I want to be near Ghostkit!”
“He’s sick. You’re going to be staying with Dustpaw’s mother tonight.”
“Orangedust?”
“Yup. Now,” She dropped off the kit, “Go.” The brown she-cat sadly sulked over to the bright orange she-cat.
Orangedust sighed, “C’mere.”
Whitesnow glanced up as her kit padded away. Ghostkit whimpered in his sleep. “Ghostkit?”

Link“Yes?”
“Are you ok?”
“I feel icky.” Ghostkit sighed.
Whitesnow licked his head. “Just try to get better.”
“Starclan is telling no.”
Whitesnow only wrapped her body around the small kit. The small kit frowned, "Why does Starclan hate me? Dustpaw told me that cats with albinism are curses from the Dark Forest…”
Whitesnow blinked. “That’s not true! Don’t listen to them!” She looked out of the den. “Stay here. I’ll be right back.” The white Queen got up and headed out of the den. “Dustpaw!”
“What?!” He called out.
“Come here! Now!”
Now, the whole Clan watched as Dustpaw timidly made his way to the angry Queen. Everyone's eyes, including Hivestar’s, were glued to them. “What is this I hear about you telling Ghostkit that he’s a curse from the Dark Forest?” Her blue eyes were filled with rage.
“No!” He yowled, lowering his ears, “Must’ve been Mintpaw!”
Whitesnow raised an eyebrow. “That’s not what Ghostkit said.”
“He barely knows the difference between us!”

LinkOtterkit slowly padded over. “It wasn’t Mintpaw. I saw you talking to Ghostkit.”
Dustpaw growled at the kit, and sharply turned at her with a twisted snarl. The little brown kit swiftly crouched down, pressing her soft belly onto the ground.
“Ignore her.” Muttered Dustpaw.
Sunset had swiftly jumped up next to Hivestar. “Shouldn’t we stop them?”
“Get Dustpaw now and bring him to my den.” The orange tabby tom nodded, running over and picking Dustpaw up by the scruff. Dustpaw hissed and battered Sunset’s muzzle. He ignored it, dragging the brown tom into Hivestar’s den.
Hivestar swiftly followed, “HOW DARE YOU!” Sunset plopped him onto the floor of the den, then moved to sit at the entrance.
It wasn't soon before the only sound was Hivestar scolding and yelling at the Apprentice. “Should… We stop her?” Beedew huddled close to Sunset.
He shook his head.
“Are you SURE?” Beedew huffed a bit.
“Yeah. I think he deserves it.”
“He does.” Growled Sandfur.

LinkThe orange tabby looked up. “But he’s your son and your Apprentice.”
“And? That’s not my son when he says things like that.”
“But he is your Kin.”
“Not if I disown him.”
“You wouldn’t!”
“I won't… For now.” His face grimmed.
Sunset looked around nervously. “I wouldn’t if I were you. Orangedust would freak out.”
“We'll keep Mintpaw though.”
“You should stop talking about it.”
“Shush.”
Mintpaw looked up at the Leader’s den as Dustpaw and Hivestar walked out. Dustpaw stumbled into the Apprentice den and fell flat onto his face. His sister followed him. “Dustpaw?”
“Shut up."
The white and brown tabby-patched she-cat folded her ears back. “Are you ok?”
“No…” He heaved.
“Why not?”
“Hivestar said I’ll have to wait an extra moon before I become a Warrior.."
“Well… We have only started less than a moon ago.”
“I wanna be a Warrior though!”
“Yeah, well, at least we don’t have to share a den with Badgerbumble.”
“He’s cool though!”

Link“More like annoying. Maybe, when he gets a mate, if he ever does, he’ll leave everyone else alone.”
“You will be his mate later.”
She scoffed. “As if.”
“You talk about him all time though…”
“This is the first time I’ve talked about him this week!”
“Oh liar!”
“Not!
“DUSTPAW! SHUT UP!” Yowled Stingfoot across the camp.
Mintpaw pressed herself onto the ground, folding her ears back. Dustpaw sighed and buried himself deep into the den.
