One thing I hate on this site is the captcha is so clunky bru I spent 5 minutes trying to do it

I’m gonna reiterate what I said on my previous post before I deleted it HyinHyin the girl with the pink hair and yellow bows is legally blind, she can only see broad shapes and colors- she has to use a walking cane to get around ShanChai the girl with the brown hair has depressive disorder and autism They both go to a school for disabled people- ShanChai is in a foster system as well since she was taken by CPS Hyin is political, strong willed and motivated she is outspoken and doesn’t let things slide Shan is very socially anxious, has trouble communicating and irrational at some points

The girls story takes place in Japan btw I guess there’s less pressure to worry about how you look with a blind person as your friend Think about not having to keep eye contact or fear you may look weird or fidgeting I thought the sterotypical Japanese school uniforms were cute but I thought about mixing what I wore and were used to as a school uniform in the United States with the Japanese counterpart They still wear skirts but they are longer because realistically japan doesn’t let girls just wear short skirts to school and I gave them a casual button up fold collar Obviously bright colored hair isn’t allowed usually in school but because this is a disabled school I think ppl can let it slide Hyin dyes her hair bright pink because she can recognize herself with it, she also has a peculiar haircut with short side parts and long bangs using bows to mimic ponytails

Hyin found it too much of a pain to worry about how to style her long hair so she cut it off Shan is very self conscious and tries to regulate herself to the “normal” Asian beauty standard She keeps her hair long and straight with bangs she has hazel eyes and a thin figure- she is underweight She obviously is a user of sh, she doesn’t like showing her arms and usually wears a jacket or long sleeves but she isn’t nervous when it’s just Hyin and her around Shan Chai is sapphic but she doesn’t romantically like Hyin, she has a crush on another girl Hyin is actually very popular in the school there in, she is in the school honor society and is in charge of a lot Shan is.. she likes to talk online ALOT sorry I didn’t mean to call you out

One thing they both have in common is liking cute accessories, animals and fashion Hyin got Shan to start wearing bows in her hair Very adventurous It’s sweet to hear you guys talk about how this reminds you of your friends relationships because Shan and Hyin relationship is very sweet and heart warming

I don’t think anyone here is blind or gonna relate to hyins side of disability, but yk there’s people who have to wear glasses or contacts or else they have horrible vision I wish I could find a way to let blind people see my art on digital Realizing most blind ppl can’t enjoy art is DESTORYINGME

I learned there’s different types of blindness and stuff One question that plagues my mind is would I rather be blind or deaf both of them are DEVASTATING to me One I can’t draw art, type or do most digital stuff anymore the other I can’t listen to music hear the voices of my friends anymore or be aware of what’s around me

Are you Hyin Hyin or Shan chai

When I was creating her I felt like something was off and I decided to change the eye position before deciding I like them uneven I didn’t think about making her blind I just knew I needed a character for Shan chai to interact with outside of the main friend group I never made a blind character before and I knew it would be a challenge but I decided to make her blind People told me she reminds them of derpy And all though I wouldn’t go so far as to call derpy ableist I don’t think she’s good representation for blind people- she’s clumsy yeah but blind idk

It shocks me actually people like either my art or characters that much If I had to guess people like the dual representation of someone who self harms and someone who is trying to help People are saying this reminds them of there friend dynamic so obviously people find it relatable I try to make my characters relatable, not just as a story telling device or something to look at

Hyin is blind but she can still hold a pencil and try to draw on Shans arms Hyin is very innovative she can use a smart phone with voice controls and can broadly know where she is most of the time UNLESS it’s night People underestimate her alor

Thanks I felt the artwork was dark art first but once I added Hyin I sort of felt better and cheered up LOL I was debating adding her or not but decided I don’t draw 2 characters in my art a lot I have to try

YES LOL Hyin Hyin is a good character she isn’t horrible like some other OCS I’ve made she’s supposed to lighten the mood usually
