LinkKouru's death was hard on all of the Kou siblings. Especially Hakuyuu, of course. He tried and tried again to fulfill his promise to Kouru, but it was hard. Much harder than he had anticipated. The castle had been so quiet, and lonely without her. It lacked warmth, and when he went into her room, he could still smell her favorite perfume, he could still see her smiling figure looking out the window. The sakura tree right outside her bedroom that she once stared at in wonder, watching it bloom time and time again, was now slowly dying. It was beginning to wither, the blossoms not growing like they once did. It was as if it had died with her. The Kou siblings were all very worried about their brother. He had stopped talking like he once had, he rarely ever ate, and he spent all of his time in Kouru's room, crying. Kouen and Hakuren would listen to him outside of her door. He sobbed, and apologize to Kouru over and over, "Kouru,' he'd cry, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry I broke my promise."
One day, Hakuren and Kouen

Linkcouldn't take it anymore. They took Hakuyuu, and sat him down in his office. "Do you see how selfish you're being?" Hakuren furrowed his brows, "this isn't what Kouru wants! She's finally free, Hakuyuu. And your guilt and mourning is imprisoning her again!" Hakuyuu merely stared at his desk, his bangs casting a shadow over his eyes. Kouen's normally stoic expression was filled with concern, "we know you love her, but this isn't right." Hakuyuu looked up at them, his serious face, and his stoic eyes were filled with anger and pain, "you two don't know what it's like." He stood from his chair with a start, causing his brother's eyes to widen in shock. He seethed, "you weren't there! You didn't see her smile! Her smile, that as filled with sadness and grief! She looked so dependent on me!" He clutched his fists and looked down at the floor, as Hakuren and Kouen stared in horror. Hakuyuu hiccuped, "even after I practically abandoned her for months, she still wasn't angry. She still smiled at me. She still told m

Link-e that she loved me! All she cared about was our happiness! She didn't even want us to be sad about her death-" he choked, "don't you think that THAT'S selfish?" Kouen and Hakuren grew silent, as he continued, "we were forced to watch her get weaker and lonelier for 20 years, and when she was finally going to be at peace, we weren't allowed to be sad!" Hakuren stood up and put his hand on his shoulder, "I can't imagine what it's like," he paused, "but-" Hakuyuu stared at him, as he looked up, staring straight into his eyes, "she's right here with you." Hakuyuu stared at him in disbelief, as Hakuren whispered, "I'm sure she's standing right next to you. Feeling guilty. Do you want her to feel that way? The woman that you've loved for 15 years, in pain, because of you?" Hakuyuu looked at the ground again, his eyes dark, as realization settled upon him. Hakuren and Kouen looked at him in silence, before exiting the room. Hakuyuu collapsed to his knees, still facing down, and whispered sorrowfully, "Kouru," he

Linkpaused, a moment of silence casting upon him, upon the room, and seemingly the whole castle, as he contemplated his next words. "Can you ever forgive me?"
Before he could say anything else, he felt a warm hand on his shoulder, and the chirp of rukh behind him. He turned around in surprise, only to see nothing there. He smiled softly, and placed his hand on his shoulder, "thank you."
