Devin tapped his pencil on the desk and watched vaguely at the other kids in his 6th grade class moving around the room, trying to find partners for the new group project. Devin always stayed at his desk until other loners gathered around him, forming an alliance of misfits. Sure enough, one by one the other students with no group to go to came and huddled around him. There were all the usual, the otaku and the shy bunny, the d&d nerd and the depressed scene kid, but there was a new face in the group as well. Devin didn't really mind; if he did, he would have left this group already. The newcomer kept glancing at another group of girls. ‘Of course she wouldn't want to be in this group,’ he thought. But they were all stuck there.
“Alright class, the class helper is passing out the poster boards now. Write your names on the back and start mapping out Asia,” their sensei called out in Japanese. Once the students received their respective poster boards, they all grabbed markers and wrote the names of th
their group on them. Devin noticed a large blotch next to where the new girl had written her name. “What happened there?” He asked, nudging her. “Did you drop the marker several times or something?”
“Oh, don't worry about it,” she exclaimed hurriedly, grabbing for some whiteout.
“That's fine, I get it. You misspelled your own name,” devin teased, half-joking. Silence filled the air for a couple of seconds, and he wondered if what he'd said had been terribly offensive. Slowly, the girl started to speak again.
“Y-yeah, I did…” the girl squeaked. Devin laughed, and she gave a half-chuckle, half choke. “I, uh, wrote Uni by accident.”
Devin started, and looked at her more closely. She was thin, with fair tan skin and brown hair. She reminded him of something, a non-face reveal from not so long ago… Many awkward conversations and so, so many fangirls…
She coughed, then said forcefully, “My eyes are up HERE.” Suddenly devin realized he had been staring at not-her-face absentmindedly, for way too long. “I'm sorry, ah- what's your name again?” He asked, avoiding eye contact. She shot him a suspicious stare before saying “It’s Morgan. I transferred here last-” “Morgan? Morganthecat?!” Devin cut her off. She jumped, then, looking around skittishly, replied “yes… How did you know?”
Devin almost fainted. The internet love of his life was right in front of him! “I'm devin, devinception! I can't believe I'm finally meeting you! You’re like - not a squirrel!”
They both laughed and hugged, until the teacher told them to shut up and get back to work or go into the hall.
That day, they walked home together. Devin
MMMmmmmm yes. Your fanfic writing skills or ok. I read fanfic all the time and this is probably the only one without spelling errors. It's also the best one that doesn't have cussing.
