I personally think that, while it is important to focus your skills on the skill you will need for your future job that you want, it is important to have at least a basic understand of math. I undersnd your point, because you will probably never need algebra to do traditional art. However, it is extremely hard to have a steady income in the art business, and you will need a job to keep the money flowing so you don’t land yourself in the “starving artist” role. So basic abilities like math, could get you a good just in case job, while you work your way up to become a full time artist. But this is just my opinion so yeah feel free to take this comment with a grain of salt. :)
