Autumn Air I breathe in, the oxygen filling my lungs, Nourishing my body with its sweet scent Cramming its way into every vessel I wait, looking up at the sky I allow the oxygen to flitter through my body Now carbon dioxide, it floats through me, Begging to be let out But I wait, savoring the bits and pieces The smell of dying leaves and browned grass I listen to the pitter-patter of red squirrels, Playing in the grass, preparing for winter I feel the coarse plants under my hands, Small thorns waiting to grow My lungs are pleading, begging me Let go, they beg And I do Welcome back, autumn air In a top ten of a poetry contest with this!!
