The tiny kit leaped onto his brother. Vinekit battered him, and bit him, “Stop!” “Never!” Vinekit hissed and tried to claw him more. Owlkit bettered his head. Vinekit knocked him over. “Mom!!” Cried Vinekit. Webtail padded over to them. “Yes?” “They're hurting me.” He innocently whined. His mother picked up Vinekit by the scruff and carried him over to Amberface. Webtail then walked back to the other kits. “You need to be nicer to him.” “They were just playing!” Squeaked Dangerkit. “Owlkit was only pretending to be a fox.” Snakekit added. “He’s just over reacting.” “Just be more gentle next time.” Webtail said, walking over to Vinekit and laying down. Vinekit nuzzled up to her. “I love you.” Webtail purred. Owlkit padded over to the nursery entrance so the queens couldn’t hear them. “Vinekit is so spoiled.” “I know....” Scowled Vixenkit, “We need to do something about it.” Snakekit cocked her head. “What do you mean?” “We go teach him a lesson.”

“But that’s mean!” Dangerpaw warned. “Isn’t that a bit too far?” Fernkit squeaked. “Do you want him to be a brat later?” “Well… no.” “Then let’s stop him. I’ll go steal his mossball.” “Where is it?” Owlkit asked. Dangerkit pointed to it. It was outside the den. “This should be easy.” Snakekit began to prowl towards it. The mossball was close to the medicine cat den. No one was watching. She slowly went up to it and snagged it in her claws. “Hurry up!” Cried Vixenkit. “Ok! Ok!” She picked it up in her mouth and ran back. Suddenly, something grabbed her. Snakekit squealed in alarm. “Snakekit…” It was Jasperwhisker. The white she-cat looked behind her. “Y-Yes?” “What are you doing?” “Uh… Just getting Vinekit’s mossball for him.” “Oh. Alright.” She purred and walked into the nursery, and laid next to Vinekits mother. She dropped her. Snakekit ran over to the other kits. “What now?” She whispered. “I don’t know!” Vixenkit mewed. Owlkit tapped his tail on the ground. “Dangerkit, any ideas?”

“Hm~ Oh! We say that he was playing with freshkill earlier!” “That is a GREAT idea!” Fernkit mewed. Dangerkit squealed with excitement. “Really?! Let’s do it!” The kits walked into the den and started to fake-frown. “Mommy… Vinekit broke the warrior code!” “How?” Jasperwhisker chuckled. “He played with freshkill!” Fernkit put in. “He threw it away!” Dangerkit yowled sadly. “He didn’t even eat any!” “Yeah!” He looked at Vinekit. Vinekit cried. “No I didn’t!” Owlkit walked into the den carrying a shredded mouse. It was covered in Vinekit’s scent. “No! That wasn’t me!” “But it has your scent all over it!” Owlkit looks at the other kits. “And we all agree seeing you do it.” “You guys are bullying me!” “Are not!” Fernkit puffed out her chest. “Why would we, your littermates, lie about this?” “Because! You hate me! Mama, you have to believe me!” Webtail got up and sniffed the mouse. “It does smell like you…” “They put it in my nest!” Brisknose walked in. “What’s all the noise for?”

“Vinekit broke the warrior code, dad!” Vixenkit yowled. “What?! Show me!” Dangerkit rolled the mouse over- it had a piece of moss on it. The gray tom scowled, rushing out to get Quartzfur. Quartzfur looked up at him. “Quartzfur, you need to come quick.” He swiftly told her what happened. Quartzfur shook her head. “Vinekit is a kit. Just tell one of the queens to scold him.” “Ok.” Brisknose walked back to the Nursery. “Vinekit needs to be scolded.” Jasperwhisker looked around. “Who wants to do that?” “I will. I’m his mother.” Webtail took Vinekit out of the den. Jasperwhisker sighed and turned to Amberface. “Are you alright?” The queen opened an eye. “I hurt a little bit.” “Maybe it’s almost time…” Jasperwhisker groomed her. “It was time two weeks ago.” “So?” Amberface clenched as she had a spasm. Jasperwhisker shot up. With a large yowl, she yelped out to the kits. “ELDERS DEN! NOW!” Brisknose came in and herded all the kits out. Dangerkit cried. “Dad, is Amberface okay?”

He flinched at being called ‘dad’. “Yes.” “What’s happening?” Vixenkit mewed. “Nothing important…” “Okay…” “EMERALDSPECK! IT’S TIME!” Jasperwhisker called out. The sulky medicine cat snapped out of it and ran into the den. Jasperwhisker was licking Amberface to help her. Emeraldspeck ran her paw on Amberface’s side. It grumbled. “There are three kits.” “You can do this, Amberface.” The gray, white, and black queen spreaded herself on the moss. Jasperwhisker blinked nervously. “How can I help?” Emeraldspeck glanced at her. “Go get a stick for her.” Jasperwhisker ran out, grabbed a stick, and gave it to Amberface. The queen took the stick in her mouth and started to bite down hard on it. The stick was thick. Strands of wood brusted into her mouse. The queen spat them out as she had another spasm and the first kit came out. It was a gray tom with white paws. Jasperwhisker swiftly licked it. It’s mew was weak, but got stronger. The second kit began to come out. “Is it stuck?” Jasperwhisker blinked.

“Well... “ Emeraldspeck started. “She was due two weeks ago.” “It can’t die like that!” A few moments passed before the kit slid onto the moss. It was a dark brown tom with white paws. It didn’t move. Jasperwhisker attempted to lick it to life. With a bitter cry, she glanced up. “I’m so sorry. Starclan has him.” Amberface yowled with grief as another spasm shook her. Jasperwhisker gave the stick back to her. The third and final kit, a black and white she-cat, fell onto the moss. Jasperwhisker gasped. “It’s alive!” She licked it. Emeraldspeck took the kit and licked it until it meowled. The whole clan was silent. They were holding their breath. “That’s the last one.” “Only two are alive…” Amberface purred as Emeraldspeck walked over. “What should I name them?” Emeraldspeck licked the kits, “We should name one of them Safekit…” “How about the she-cat? We could name the tom Splashkit?” “I like that name.” Emeraldspeck dipped her head. “I’ll leave you two to your new kits.”
