So the first thing you need to astablish is what message or emotion are you trying to convey? Usually darker and harsher water (bigger waves) makes the drawing more action driven, while as calmer water (less waves and black and white values) would give it calmer vibes. For drawing water, usually the water that is farther away becomes lighter and the would be less details. Also if there is an object that is close to the water or hanging over, there is usually a reflection resembling the object. The angle of the reflection would depend on where the sun is hitting. Idk if thAt makes sense gigduf
Okay let's just imagine water as a dress, the more folds there are the more values you would see. If the dress is spred out and flat, then you wouldn't see as many shadows. If you need anymore help just ask!! I hope this is somewhat helpful lmao
