i'd say you change maybe the tone of the main color to whatever color you see fit, maybe changing patterns a bit. Like adding simple little things to improve how it looks, like maybe a tail tip or wings. Or, you could add faint stripes or stripes that really define the character, and you can add maybe a special trait.
