It was a ww1 infantry charge. Russian soldiers looked like zombies due to the exposure to dangerous gasses. People think that the Germans where the good ones in that war. I don't think that, all they where where sick bastards.
since they didnt have any gas masks, they used thier undershirts or any other cloth they could find. When they attacked the germans, they fought they where being attacked by living zombies.
