Chapter 1 I’m almost there I think, so close to my mother and father, and my older brother 10 years, and i'm finally going home. I try to remember my mother and father but it's so hard too, I was 7 when I was taken, forced to be their slave. But that’s behind me now. After the war, they forced whoever participated in it, to send one person from their family to serve as a servant to the government. At first because of it I hated my mother, you see after the war when they said that my mother said I should go, because she could do all the work I did at home. And that if someone was going to die there it should be me, since I wouldn't carry on the family name because i'm a girl. And my brother could carry on the name. I look breathlessly at the station and it is so different then I remember it. The biggest difference is that children this time aren’t crying, as they are forced on. But there are still familys packed in the station. I grab the little bag I have with me that has a few belongings, clothes and a little doll I had when I was very young. A law enforcer somes in the cart i’m in “Everyone, we have arrived, please escort yourselves outside to the station.” Many people stand up, gathering belongings, I run out of the cart not waiting on any of them. I walk down the steps and onto the platform, I look around, much of the people are dressed fancier than me, with nice pants and a shirt, as I wear a tee shirt and old jeans.
