‘Twas mostly timeline issues. They had a master a very long time ago, after defeating Makarov (Which was temporary..unexpectedly) they were put to sleep by said master for a while and when they woke up he was nowhere to be seen. So they’ve just been living without purpose- and eventually put on a leash by their former enemy. (Makarov)
