Basically, Elemental Awakening occurs either when: You gather atleast 8 of the Omega Stones OR You come into direct contact with the Omega Core in the center of Nocturnia! Evolution greatly increases the elements powers and changes their abilities. For example, from rage to malice, the more you hate someone the stronger your element is against said person. It gathers every negative emotion you have tied with that person and puts it into an energy source.

Other examples: from Fire --> Ignis Instead of controlling just fire, lets the user control the temperature of the air around them, fire, ect. the user can make volcanoes erupt from the ground. from Water --> Oceanus Lets user control the moisture in the air, in bodies, and ANY liquid. Can control the weather too. from Lightning --> Tempest Controls all electricity, static, energy, ect. Can summon storm clouds and create infinite energy sources
