Learn the basic of shading first. Let's start with a ball. Choose your base color, make a dot, and enlarge it. Now, make a black color, and set it to 0.01 opacity. Make sure it is not 0.1 without the extra zero. Now, let's shade. Select the brown pencil.
Now, shade. Your strokes should be curved to give dimension to the ball. The closer to the edge it is, the darker it should be, which means more strokes. Now, you add highlights to the ball. A highlight is where an object is brightest. Set a color to white. Make it 0.01 opacity. Now, select the third biggest stroke size. Make a small, curved line at the non shaded part of the ball. Keep clicking a line until you see a white highlight. These are only the basics, there are many more elements to realism.
