I was dining at around 6:00 pm. I had made friends with a few other 3rd class voyagers and even a waiter. We bonded a lot. He told me his name was Victor Smithman. We ended up exchanging addresses so we could write to each other. I was having a good time maybe even better than if I was in the 1st class. After all, I would be expected to be orderly, and neat. Which is something I’m not good with. I keep the wind on my face and always have an adventure ahead of me. Life is too short to keep a napkin in my lap. Although it would be nice to be respected more and have more privileges. Though, being a low life, dirty adventurer is who I am. I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Hours had past and many people had left, but not everyone. It probably would be around 10:00 pm or maybe even later As I was talking with Victor we heard a bang. It made the tables tremble, drinks shake and it even made some of the waiters drop their plates. Including Victor. Victor groaned in annoyance as he started to clean up the mess.

I stood up from my seat and helped him. “Who let an elephant on the ship?” I asked, joking a little to raise Victor’s mood. Victor laughed “Not elephants, it’s just those first-class people walking around after being stuffed to the brim with expensive food,” Victor said. We both started to laugh. “Do you think it was something bad though?” I asked, getting a little nervous. After all, what could have made that big of a bang? “It could be,” Victor said “Do you think we could check it out?” I asked, hoping he’d say yes, I loved a good mystery “I can’t. I have to say here. Maybe you could go figure it out and come back down. Does that sound good?” Victor asked. I nodded excitedly. “I’ll be right back then!” I said cheerfully. Of course, I was nervous but my anxiety was drowned in my excitement. I ran up to the docks. There was commotion everywhere. Some people were serious, others were terrified. I went up to a crewmate “What’s going on if I may ask?”

“The boat hit an iceberg. We’re currently figuring out the situation. I started to worry more. “What’s going to happen? Is the ship going to sink? “ I asked frantically. “Sir stay calm. We don’t know either of those answers.” He said, he looked up and down at me. Seeing my simple common clothes “You’re from third-class, is that correct?” I nodded “If I may be so bold to ask, can you bring others up on the dock?” “Of course sir,” I said before heading back downstairs. I slid down the rails of the stairs in a hurry. A woman who seemed to be of first-class was walking by the stairs as I almost knocked into them. The woman yelled at me. “Have you no sense of manners?!” The woman yelled at me. I ignored her and continued down the stairs until I got to the dining room. “Victor! Victor!” I said frantically. Victor walked out from the back where workers were usually. He looked confused

“Did you find anything out?” He asked “Yes, the boat crashed into an iceberg. We don’t know if it’ll sink or not but we have to get everyone to the docks!” I said, trying to catch my breath “Well, there’s no time to waste!” Victor said heading back to the workers’ room. I assumed he told the other workers since they all came out and split up. “We’ll split up, meet me at the docks near the front of the boat,” Victor said. I nodded and headed down the halls. I would go from room to room telling people to go to the docks. An hour or maybe even two passed. I headed back up to the dock when I thought that was the rest of them. But a small thought went over me.

Second class. I knew I should go tell the second class as well. I headed back downstairs and did the same as before. A downside of the cabins, the hallways were identical. I’d get lost and go in circles. Hours past. I finally got to the deck. I headed towards the front of the dock. Once I got up there I saw crew members loading women and children into the lifeboats. I needed to find Victor first. I headed towards the front of the boat where Victor stood. He was out of breath and sweating. I waved at him and he waved back, motioning for me to come over. I did.

“Why are you so out of breath?” I asked “Ran around telling people. Same as you. I had to go to the furnace room where some workers were unaware of the situation” He said. I looked back at the lifeboats as women and children were boarding. “Is it just the women and children that are going?” I asked “For now, until all of them are boarded we can’t go on” “Do you think we’ll be able to make it on one of those boats?” I asked looking at Victor “Hopefully, but we can’t be so sure.” Victor sighed running his fingers through his hair. I looked over at the orchestra, who were playing soft tunes. “What brave men, to just play without a care for their own life” I stated. “I agree.” Victor nodded. Before we could say anything else a crewmate shouted. “That’s the last of the women and children!! Men, aboard now!”

Victor and I looked at each other for a moment before running to a lifeboat. Men were crowded around each lifeboat. Crewmates let each man on. We both surrounded a lifeboat. Lifeboat number thirteen. A crewmate pointed at Victor and I. He yelled at us and we gladly got on board. A wave of relief went over us. But it wasn’t over yet. We needed to row away from the titanic as to avoid any falling objects. Soon the lifeboat was soon lowered down to the waters immediately all of the men started to row away from the titanic. I looked back at the sinking ship. The view was horrifying. Haunting screams and the faint tune of the orchestra echoed through my head even after we had long escaped. A large ship was sailing around. A rescue ship of some sort. A few of us yelled to get the attention of people on the boat. Crew members on the boat called out to us.

We rowed towards the boat and climbed a metal ladder one by one. A woman introduces herself as Winnifred. She told us that we boarded the Carpathia and that we were safe now. Victor looked at me “Can you believe we survived that?” “No” I chuckled “What’s going to happen now?” “Only time will answer that question,” I said to victor, looking out at the sea. “Only time will tell…”
