then why is it possible for us to go to hell when we die

He loved us so He made a way for His creation to go to Him, and that is through Jesus Christ! There's hell because that is where Satan and his people get punished. I'm sorry if I'm not the one you expected to answer this but... I hope this helps ^^
It's possible to go to Hell when we die because sin is death, and the punishment of that wickedness is Hell which man brought to Earth.
But sense God loved us so much he sent his only begotten son, Christ Jesus to die on the cross for our sins.
