. It swung outward, and Key lunged to grab it before it hit the floor. He let out a breath of relief and crawled out, motioning for Gold and Porsha, who crawled out of the vent and promptly whapped Key across the face. “OW! What was that for?!” Key yelped, crashing into a table which was, thankfully, cleared of anything on it. “BeCAUSE you almost got us KILLED! And you brought us bad luck!” “What in the world are you talking about?!” “When you mentioned an experiment escaping! You said what if the creature got out? Well, guess what? IT GOT OUT!!” Her voice had risen to a shrill pitch. Gold was furtively glancing at the door, but he whipped around and snarled, “Keep your voices down!” Key looked confused. “But you’re the one who mentioned E-13,” he reminded Porsha. Porsha stamped her foot. “You started it,” she huffed stubbornly. Key shook his head. Gold changed the subject.

“Hey, Porsha?” he said quietly, nervously twisting his paws together, “do—do you think everyone survived? I just— I just hope that everyone is ok, is all.” I’m… maybe.” Porsha murmured, looking subdued. Meanwhile, Key had found a crowbar and hefted it like a weapon. He walked over to the door and tried to open it, but it was blocked. He wedged the crowbar in the crack between the door and the doorway and started to pull it one way, then the other, then he stopped, panting. Porsha walked over, grabbed the crowbar, and wrenched the door open in one fluid motion. Gold muttered something that sounded like “show-off,” but he fell silent when they walked out into the hallway. Porsha led the way, her hands shaking slightly—but she gripped the crowbar tighter and continued walking. Key reached into his satchel and pulled out a pocketknife, and Gold found a piece of pipe that was curved on one end and had bolts connected to the lip of it and carried that like a baseball bat.

As the trio walked, the building was filled with noise. Broken piped hissed, the insides of the building creaked, and the most terrifying of all, the occasional furious ROAR shook the building slightly. Gold suddenly slumped against the wall. He put his head in his paws, the lead pipe clattering against the floor. “Why did I ever work here?” he whimpered. Key put a reassuring paw on Gold’s shoulder. “Well, when we started our internship here there wasn’t any creatures yet. The company started designing them like halfway through our time here.” Gold didn’t look reassured. Another roar shook the foundation of the building, and all three shuddered. “C’mon, let’s keep moving,” Key said, helping Gold up. “That’s the best chance we have of surviving this place.” The three of them kept walking, hoping to get out of the horrible laboratory.
