The false sun is a bizarre creature. It has the ability to create heat within its cross shaped sail. The heat created tricks nearby creatures into thinking it is a hydrothermal vent. Once its prey draws close it tears them to pieces using its proboscis. Most of its kind start out as tiny blue filter stars (shown on right) that float around with plankton. Only a few will metamorphosize into false suns. What triggers this metamorphosis is unknown.
