As for explaining the story behind Null and Komu specifically, the two of them are “soul bonded” in a way. Nobody knows how or why this bond happened; but the Shinobi that are more spiritually inclined propose that this is proof that Oni do indeed have souls like us mortals. Though this is subject for heavy debate among the Shinobi.
