Physical Appearance: Otterpad is a light brown furred tom, with darker brown patches around their, paws, ears, face, and tail. They have light blue eyes, strikingly like his father. Otterpad’s pelt is often groomed very well, it’s extremely rare to see him dirty or with leaves/twigs in his fur (if you do, then you know you messed up). They have a rather slender build, and are pretty tall and agile. He has a long slim tail and a small muzzle, in which he also inherited from his dad.

Skills: Due to Otterpad’s lack of brute strength, he relies much more on agility, speed, and quick thinking rather than pure force. That being said, Otterpad isn’t the best fighter, as he despises confrontation and is usually on the defensive side of the fight, dodging advances more than making his own. Otterpad has great balance, mostly because of his long tail, and loves climbing trees; they make him feel safe. Otterpad loves hunting birds, because it is often considered “impressive” and it makes them feel validated. He is a good hunter for the most part, he’s however terrible at catching voles. Otterpad is also well educated on herbs, and often helps Larkfang, the medicine cat and his best friend, with their duties. Because of Otterpad’s hate for confrontation, he feels like he actually contributes to the clan when he hunts and helps Larkfang with herbs.

Personality: Otterpad is very anxious, he feels like he constantly has to prove himself and that he’ll never be enough for the clan. They keep well-groomed and try to make his image seem as responsible and loyal as possible, like their father and mother. He’s always chasing validation, easily becoming clingy and needy. Otterpad is also rather cowardly, with little trust in himself, and gets easily scared or intimidated. He’s terrible at managing his emotions, and has barely any emotional intelligence, despite being able to be actually somewhat clever at times like his father. If you look beyond all his faults, Otterpad is genuinely a sweet, well-meaning guy who just wants people to be proud of him; and that if he could overcome his desperate need to always feel loved, maybe he could be a better cat.

Backstory: Otterkit was born as the only kit to Brownleg, a brown tabby queen. During his kithood, he did not know his father. However, the clan could easily see the resemblance and knew right away, regardless of Brownleg desperate claims of it being a “secret”. When he was six moons old, he became an apprentice, with Eelstream as his mentor. Eelstream was a chill, laidback she-cat, contrasting greatly from Otterpaw’s personality, that tried her best to train Otterpaw, despite Eelstream being a newly made warrior at the time. It was around this time he found out his father was Eaglefeather, a former rogue who had joined the clan. By now, Eaglefeather was well respected, but at the time Brownleg was pregnant, it would make sense to keep the father a secret. Brownleg was very upset about the news getting out, even though it was practically common knowledge among the clan. Sadly, Brownleg became more and more distant from her son, not wanting to “ruin” her image (a trait also shown in Otterpad).

Eaglefeather however would try to be close with his son, but Otterpaw was always scared that his father would abandon him, and become a rogue again. He’d have persistent nightmares of Eaglefeather leaving him behind, of which he often shared with Larkpaw, the medicine apprentice. Otterpaw’s distrust of his father would become the first example of his anxiety over everyone leaving him. Larkpaw always tried his best to comfort Otterpaw, and they shared a very close bond. Another apprentice around his age, Owlpaw, a spunky, brave she-cat, also was good friends with him. Eventually he was made a warrior along with Owlwing. Shortly after, Larkpaw became a full medicine cat with the name Larkfang. Otterpad now rarely spoke with his parents, relying more on his friends. Even though Otterpad meant the best, he quickly became clingy with Owlwing. This led to a big argument between the two, leaving Larkfang confused and conflicted. Otterpad’s nightmares of everyone leaving him persisted and persisted, never stopping.
