The National Zombie and Black Awareness Day, celebrated on November 20, was officially instituted by Law No. 12,519, of November 10, 2011. The date refers to the death of Zombie, the then leader of Quilombo dos Palmares - located between the states of Alagoas and Pernambuco, in the northeast region of Brazil.
