Personally, I'd recommend making it not totally opaque, you can bring back some of that translucence at the end with a low opacity eraser. I'd also argue against using straight black, you have to be much less careful with a lighter grey and it is MUCH MUCH MUCH easier to shade. Promagma does this too, from what I've seen of their speedpaints. Also, water is blue. Not the easiest to see when it's just one water droplet, but a little bit of saturation goes a long way to a lively and truly realistic image just some friendly advice from one amateur realist to another
