maybe not so many petals, just enough to surround the head and provide a sort of mane attached to the tail that runs along the spine, being a small strip along the spine but thickening at the neck and tail.
the addition of ribs like on 4 would also be cool and help add more to the outline, some petals from the spinal strip of petals trickling down around the ribs
