Why color picking doesn’t always work: -In this drawing: The character is obviously pale. However, when we color pick the skin tone we can see the actual color is pretty dark! this is because the surrounding colors can change out perception (of colors) If we take this logic and apply it to other drawings, we can see how this may cause a problem. -This is a simple example: Both drawings use the same “skin” tone, but one looks so much lighter because of the surroundings. now some added details i didn’t want to write: Even if you color pick a skin tone, the skin may appear to be lighter or darker depending on how you choose to color the surrounding hair, clothes, and background. even if you “color picked” that does not matter because color theory does not care about color picking lol

this post isn’t solely for “calling out white washers” it can also just help with color theory and why your colors may look off in a drawing.
