LinkGold stumbled backward. “What. The heck. Is THAT?!”
“E-13,” Porsha breathed.
“Shut up!” Gold hissed. “It’ll hear us!”
“Don’t tell ME to— Key. WHAT are you DOING?!”
Key had uncorked the bottle of acid that Gold had been messing with earlier.
“Protecting myself.” he said simply.
The door let out another squeal.
Everyone froze.
Tense, everyone stared, wide-eyed, at the door.
Waiting.
Key glanced at his friends. “I think-“
The door slammed open.
A giant, burned-fleshed-colored creature poked its head into the room. It had rows and rows of countless teeth spilling out of its mouth. Its pitch-black tongue dripped blood-red saliva- at least, they hoped it was saliva. Its emaciated face filled the doorway and took a deep inhale. Key noticed, in his frozen, terrified state, that where its eyes should be was only two giant, gaping, black holes.
Key covered his eyes with a paw and flung the acid at the creature. The acid landed on it, sizzled… and dripped off, harmless.

LinkPorsha crawled over to him, as did Gold. “What do we do?!” Gold whispered urgently.
“Are you inSANE?!” Porsha hissed at Key. “It’s gonna-“
The beast’s head snapped toward them, and it hissed, long and slow. The thing pushed its way through the doorway, long claws gripping the edge of the door. Porsha’s eyes darted around the room, then he whacked the other two with a small paw and pointed, wordlessly, at a vent. Gold nodded, understanding, and pulled a small screwdriver out of her pocked. With Key and Porsha watching her back, Gold slowly began to unscrew the vent. The creature was almost completely inside the room. It growled, apparently in frustration, and scrabbled at the floor, its claws finding no purchase on the slick surface. It swung a talon around to find a way to pull itself in, and it smashed through the carefully lined up test tubes, sending shattered glass flying.
“Got it!” Gold whispered, and together the three crawled through the vent.
