Brought back some pretty old characters in this installment. Cassandrah (once named Tiffany-- hated the name so I changed it) and Caroline (before named Cassidy. Not a bad name, but it didn't suit her the way I wanted it to) are the mothers of Jax and Cathy.

Their families haven't changed at all since I first drew them-- along with their overall dynamics. I just needed a different look for the mothers for this medieval setting, especially for Caroline, now that I've finally introduced Jax and Lexi's father into the mix. I've never actually drawn Kasim (the father) digitally before, and of course I had to be all mysterious about it by covering his face the first time I ever draw him on this site. I think it's fun!

I decided I wanted to delve into the dynamics between the characters in these drawings just a little bit, so I'm gonna explain them for my future self for when I look back at this post eventually. Read along if you'd like. Jax and Keith are father and son, though Jax is mostly absent in Keith's younger years. Despite that, Jax encourages Keith to pursue his hobbies to distract him from wanting to be king (already set up for Keegan, who at the time had the Paladin's Flame instead of Keith). He gives Keith the time of day because he sees a lot of himself in him. Immediately after is the dynamic between Kasim and Jax. Kasim is even more-so absent from Jax's life, but instead of acknowledging his son as a naturally flawed child, he blatantly ghosts him. Jax's relationship with his father is deeply rooted in him and encourages him to be a better father for his own kids.

Now, the relationship between Cassandrah and Caroline aren't entirely expanded on in my mind JUST yet, but I have at least a base line of their dynamic down for the most part. Cassandrah is a maiden that openly boasts her attributes to anyone who cares to look her way, while Caroline keeps to herself. Seeing such a secluded girl with little-to-no confidence in her own beauty, Cassandrah takes advantage of that anxious nature to belittle Caroline, despite actually being quite jealous of her looks. When Kasim is on the search for a bride, Cassandrah is confident that with her seduction she'll naturally be chosen as Queen. So when Caroline is chosen over her, suddenly everything she teased Caroline about just ended up being a self-projection of what Cassandrah wishes she was. I show Jax and Cathy in the same position not to symbolize the similarities between their mothers' relationship-- but to show just how different they are from one another.

Catherine is chosen despite her mother's attributes; despite her insecurities of having a whore for a mom and the body of one too. It's like their roles are switched from their parents'. Cathy has every reason to pick on Jax's insecurities to cope with her own-- to manipulate him to make herself feel bigger when she really feels so small on the inside. Instead of pointing out his flaws, she brings out the best of him so they can thrive together; a relationship Cassandrah and Caroline could've had if Cassie weren't so held up in her own insecurities. So yeah- uhh, lots to go over in that dynamic, as I'm honestly not sure what the point of showing each side of the coin really does for the story just yet. I guess I'll figure it out the more I dig into it. I'm gonna stop yapping now. I'm super proud of these 5 drawings, and I hope you guys enjoy these more frequent posts from me as well! I look forward to the next one. Tootles! 💜
