The masked man trudged through the snow; he gripped his satchel’s strap tight in his hands as he walked. It was late in the night as Mason was heading home and not a soul was in sight. The wind felt like sharp needles of coldness each time it blew, as he walked he could feel the snow crunching and grinding against the bottoms of his boots. Out of seemingly nowhere one of the papers from Mason’s bag was taken in the wind and carried into the alleyway.

“Oh for god’s sake…” Mason grumbled in annoyance as he dropped the bag to the ground and chased after the paper. The paper landed on the ground in the alley, Mason bent down and grabbed it up again. As Mason straightened himself his eyes shifted to the corner of the alley where there seemed to be the silhouette of a small child, Mason jolted back with a half choked back scream of surprise due to not expecting such a sight. Mason took a minute to regain his senses as he slowly crept closer to the figure, once he got close to what he thought was a person he started to notice this was only a doll. Mason gently placed a hand on the doll’s cheek, admiring the doll.

The doll that he had found was fairly large, they had very fluffy brunette hair and oddly large eyes in which the pupils took up most of their eyes, the doll had dark red, round cheeks that glistened in the moonlight, and the doll was dressed in a red sweater vest along with a white dress shirt and black pants. Mason smiled a bit as he gently picked up the doll, though once he had picked it up the doll felt less like a normal doll but in fact felt like a very thin person, the doll’s body was soft and he could feel almost what seemed to be ribs. Mason blinked in confusion as he looked over the doll

“You are an odd little thing ain’t yah...” he smiled as he held the doll in his arms and returned to his bag which was now coated in a thin sheet of snow. Mason shook the snow off the bag before placing the paper he had lost inside along with the doll. He once again tossed his bag over his shoulder and proceeded to walk back to his home.

Once Mason got back to his house he unlocked the door with a soft click, he opened the door and went inside. Mason gently plopped the bag onto the couch as he reached inside to pull the doll out of the bag and placed it on the couch. Mason looked down at the doll as he situated it so the doll was sitting upright; the doll’s glassy eyes seemed to be staring at him as Mason stared back. Mason and the doll had simply been staring at each other for what seemed like hours until the doll seemed to blink.

Mason jolted back with a soft gasp of surprise “What in the?” he muttered softly before moving closer to the doll. The doll’s eyes seemed livelier then the soulless gaze it had before, Mason narrowed his eyes as he glared at the doll. Mason stood once again deciding that it was just his mind toying with him like it usually does when he was tired. Mason turned and trudged back into his room and shut the door thinking that the doll should be fine on the couch until Mason could find a proper place to store it. Mason threw himself onto the bed as he kicked off his shoes and placed his mask on the table, he then slid into the blankets and let his head drop onto the pillow as he closed his eyes and drifted off.

It was about three in the morning when Mason was woken up by a loud crash coming from the kitchen. Mason grabbed his knife from the table he threw the blankets off his body as he slammed the door open and bolted into the kitchen “Get the hell out of my house you-!” Mason shouted before lowering his eyes to the cause of the noise.

Mason looked down to see the doll he had taken in earlier laying on the floor staring up at mason wide eyed and frightened with shards of a shattered plate surrounding them. Mason just stared down at the doll with terror and confusion in his expression. “h-hi…” the doll choked out nervously as an uneasy smile slowly spread across their face. Mason just stared in fear as he admired the now obviously alive doll “So… you are alive..?” he questioned softly as he helped sit the person up and brushed the remaining pieces of porcelain from the doll’s hair. The doll nodded slightly, still seeming fearful of mason. Mason smiles reassuringly as he placed his hand on the doll’s shoulder. “Don’t be frightened kiddo, as long as you don’t try to kill me I won’t do anything to harm you.” After Mason said these things bailey seemed to be more trusting of him. “I am Mason, what is your name?” he asked softly “Bailey…” said the doll quietly as a tiny smile crossed their face
