i always knew it from the urban legends,, like the monster-- which i thought was a direct reference from a cultural monster?

It is a reference but media portrays it as a “Werewolf esq deer creature” when its more or less (at least from the research I’ve done) its a frozen spirit of sorts, so its slightly a mix of disrespecting a culture and disrespect of the dead in a way?
But yeah! You shouldn’t be using the term especially to describe the creature in most media ^^

Yeah, The media creature is alright to use as long as you call it something else but the actual spirit you shouldn’t turn into a fancy little oc and use the name of it while making a slutty/edgy/cutesy/etc kind of character,, its just-
Disrespectful honestly, so its best to avoid the word altogether and use a different term if you insist on making an oc revolving around the creature in media

Unless you’re genuinely describing the accurate creature you shouldn’t be using this term!!
Media presents it inaccurately and is incredibly disrespectful about the cultural significance!
The creatures in media are not an accurate representation of the creature and if you want to make an oc that looks similar to ones in media please use a different term!
Personally i use “deer beast” or something similar to that,
I’m not indigenous personally but I’ve seen/heard from indigenous folk that such blatant disrespect for heavily taboo terms isn’t very lovely and I’m just trying to point it out for future use! There are quite a few other terms you shouldn’t use either
Such as sk1nw41k3r/Flesh pedestrian (you can use flesh pedestrian but do not use the other term) again
