He does eat, but he'll shove food in his mouth, put his gas mask back on, and eat his food with his mask on. He can't breath oxygen due to experiments that went wrong since they were trying to have people who can breath certain types of gas. Now he can only breath those types of gas, and if you took his mask away, he'd literally die.
