A combination of the two can work in many ways. You can make a creeepy thing cute, you can make a cute thing creepy, you can make something cute and creepy, and you can have a creepy thing and a cute thing together.
But I hate that people draw something cutesy, and maybe ot has dark colours, maybe some blood, maybe it's a cutified creepy thing. But the artist says it's creepy.
No it ain't, shut up.

bloody things arent creepy they're just gorey, unless you draw them incorrectly, i think the more realistic it is the gorey-er it is
but gore isnt creepy
apparently creepy things are creepy because our brain recognizes some of the object or picture but it doesnt recognize it all the way and we end up feeling uneasy
take robots for example, they look like humans but theyre not alive, theyre totally creepy though. and i mean the life sized ones.

On here there are three types of common gore. A person with blood on, a person with one organ cartoonishly out of their body, and a person hanging from a badly drawn noose.
You mean the uncanny valley, but yeah, nearly being something recognizable is the main type of creepy. It's what I use all the time.
