i mean it gets rid of the shit posting and helps that whole thing where people are having to delete the comments off their featured posts
its not really supposed to be a "social site" its more so an art site that has been overrun by underrage shit posters and spam posts, comments, etc. thats the whole reason so many bigger creators have left.
BUT i can see where yall are coming from, its a big community thing and it ruins the social aspect of flipanim, especially considering hes making these changes when a focus towards improving the editor would be way more beneficial
you could say that abt pretty much any art site then. magma would then be considered a "social site" when its more so a collaborative ART site. same with pixel art, or a better example being IBIS, as ibis HAS a more "social" side to it, but its still considered an art platform.
the misuse and misconception of FA as a social platform is something that is the fault of no one but the creator itself so i can understand not wanting to agree with the changes, but it truly isnt meant to be a social site.
on a similar but different note, the "socialization" thats been done in the life span of flipanim is all a liability to the creator. im sure i dont have to explain why but if youre curious the amount of sexual misconduct and sheer trauma done to children on this site is egregiously bad. its a lawsuit and a half if someones parents get a wild hair up their ass and decide that the mental harm done to their children was suable.
goonmaster thinks that this site was always meant to be a social site due to its formatting and most things on this site would have not happened if flipanim actually moderated back then, but its too late to go back and him cracking down on rules now is pointless
like flipanim as a social media platform is fun and all and i love being able to converse under posts and hang out with friends but cmon, there has to be a line to draw. if people complain about one thing and it gets fixed, others complain about the limitation the fix brings. having the goal to make a free and unfunded platform so that younger minds can immerse themselves into digital art is absolutely amazing IF it has its limits and its protections. this might be one of them
who knows he might be limiting it now to create a better system :P or kill fa :v
moderating a site that generated hundreds of posts a day is a job, unfortunately one guy doesnt have the time to do that
a platform project that became hundreds of teens and kids lifeline is lowk not his problem
however i can understand the anger, i just have a different perspective on it
probably because hes not moderating a discord link that takes you to a different social platform with different rules lmao
i get the anger against him and all that, i dont blame you for being upset because we were essentially given something that looks like a social platform with a moderately active dev, but stuff took a down turn (i blame it on the new editor) and toxicity getting worse leaves one guy to do what might make people mad :/ just how tings roll i suppose
the website does look like a social platform it is a social platform. the introduction of likes, a follow/block feature, or the ability to comment on other people’s anims are key parts of a social platform
if there was no intention to make this a social platform then why not for lack of a better example make it like the gallery feature that was on the welcome home art site for a bit? all you could do was send something in and everyone could see it amongst other submissions. nobody could comment or like anything you could just see it. if the purpose of this site were just for sharing art then that is all we would have
don’t defend someone who refuses to take action to protect the people on this site. it doesn’t matter if it’s not technically a social site by your view because it led to social interactions and it actively encourages you to go offsite with the links to share anims on places like tumblr or pinterest under every anim.
if he knew he wouldn’t be able to moderate all th people at some point he never should’ve let it get as far as it did it is still his responsibility just as much as it is of the people who did the damage because he could have prevented things
Im not defending him in defending the current actions hes taking to backtrack that. Its 100% his fault for listening to a community of minors and trying to make a site more geared towards socialization just for the attraction he thought it mightve brought. Like i said he created the misconception that it was one and its 100% agreeable to be mad
