So basically, Aru is a clone. The world she lives in involves three planes of social hierarchy- Board Members, Citizens, and Clones- Clones being the least respected of the three. Clones are used as many things including, assistants, food sources, and pretty much are living punching bags for those who can afford them. Clones are not permitted to have friends, mates, or property- and are often not considered people. If they prove to be of no use- they are recycled and made into what is called "Clone Goo" which are used to feed other Clones. They are made artificially and often don't have ANY sign of personality.
