Dutch was born in Poland, he was 13. 17th September, 1939, he was hiding under the house, the only place he could live without being killed. His mom was killed a few days before when the Nazis invaded Poland, the only thing Dutch had left of her was his scarf that she gave to him when he was 9. The loud noises outside were scary, he had no where to go, and nobody left. His family was gone, he was all the was left. His house had a hidden room that led down to a bunker. The bunker contained enough to keep him alive for another few years, but he knew if he stayed to long then he would be found. He had to think of a plan to escape without being caught.

He had hid in the bunker for a couple years... June 22nd, 1941, everything outside seemed much louder, much worse.. He could tell something wasn't right. He stayed inside the bunker, he had a small radio. He turned on the radio to find out the Nazis were taking Poland and marching towards the Soviet Union. His odds of survival were even smaller now. Operation Barbarossa had started and all he could do was try and survive.
