It's because of her powers (or "quirk" as it's called in the anime). Everything she touches turns to ice, so she has to wear freeze proof mittens. She sees it as a burden. But she can at least survive hot weather and such, because her quirk also causes her body temperature to be at an all time low.

oh yeah, she also has depression. she had it since she first got her quirk, because she accidently froze her best friend. luckily, they were able to turn her friend back, but her friend never talked to her again.
