Slightly off topic but also not, I’m convinced people who hate gimmick bands are the saddest people alive. I completely understand if flashy visuals and story telling isn’t your thing, but if that’s really ruining the music for you then I’m afraid you’re just allergic to joy, magic and fun.

Anyways if anybody is actually reading this, stream Sleep Token. All of their albums. And EPs. And singles. Honestly before I got into them I was highkey one of those annoying metal “elitists” who would ask anyone in a metal band T-shirt to name 5 songs, hate on anything mainstream and be just super prejudice against girls who like metal (even though I’m one myself). But they completely changed my perspective on music. Bro the other day I was listening to hozier (thanks Brittany broski for converting me yet again) and I had to stop and think how far I’d come. Anyways I’m just really happy they have such a unique sound and were able to introduce me to more pop sounds whilst also adding in metal elements

Not to mention the lore going crazy. They’re basically just an arg at this point, and I’m all for it. Also proper got into ghost because of them, who I originally only really enjoyed their first album because I always thought the newer music was just too rock/ soft for me. But I’ve come to love it, and now I’m open to so many more genres yayy! That being said, I’m gonna go listen to rings of saturn now because I haven’t indulged in them in like… well actually like a week which is not very long but YAYY! :D

By the way when I say story stuff when referring to gimmick bands I mean moreso a theatrical type band, like where all the bandsmen or women play characters or dress up as such. Because most music does tell stories, but not like how a gimmick band would, yk?

Like bands that are usually alternative/ specifically more on the metal side, who also have a motif/ theme to all their work. For example, wearing masks, or only singing about aliens, or having an arg type thing going on like bad omens or sleep token. Etc.

Actually I guess the term could be applicable to other genres but it’s more used to refer to metal bands :D

My family lowkey bully me for liking them your so lucky, my dad thinks Vessel’s voice is annoying so I’m not allowed to play my Sleep Token CDs loud SMH! But yeah I really like that Greaze track by mg, and some of their new stuff has been pretty good
