edmund has always liked """""""""girl clothes""""""""""" but his dad was a shithole about it and said some uh. not nice things that would probably trigger people and are just really homophobic when edmund wasnt even gay at the time? mans just liked dresses uhh he grew up with a really strict idea of what was and wasnt ok for him to do/say/like/wear as a male, not on purpose and he never really liked it but he was kind of forced into it ig and then jesse stormed in (and later c!theo) and just absolutely destroyed his thoughts on gender (for context, jesse is nb and somewhat femenine leaning) and he was like...... you can do that??? and he started questioning the gender shit he was spoonfed and jesse helped him through the toxic gender thought stuff and even if he was really reclusive about it at the time he started dressing a little more femininely (almost always just for himself),,

fast forward a lot and c!theo fades into the picture and brainwashes him into believing that clothes have no gender (THEY DONT!!!!!!) and he starts becoming more open about this sort of thing and even if he'd never wear a dress or something out in public. he'll still wear one infront of markus or theo or fauna or whatever hes fine with being male, edmund isnt trans shut up!!!! and he still does like acting all big mr testosterone but. dresses are some of his favorite things to wear im just mentioning like dresses n stuff i know. thats on purpose,,, he doesnt do makeup or anything, its not his type of thing and he's not like,, a drag queen or something he just doesnt extend far past clothes in terms of acting gnc i guess
