Chapter 17
Flutterstar walked out of the Elder’s cave and over to Quartzfur. She glanced up at the leader and flickered her tail.
“The elders told me that your leader ceremony was canceled.”
“What?” She swifty stood up.
“By the lightning strike.”
“Lighting always strikes…”
“But not usually during a ceremony.”
“Yes… I don’t see how a strike could hinder me becoming a leader.”
“They said it was very loud.”
“All strikes are!” She said stubbornly.
Flutterstar fell silent.
She sighed, and turned to go to the medicine cat cave. ”I need to talk to them first…”
The yellow leader nodded and sat down. The cave seemed much damper and dustier. Jasperwhisker took a sitting next to her. “Hello Jasperwhisker.”
“Hello Flutterstar,” She smiled, “How are you?”
“I’m doing good, but worrying about my Clan.”
“Was your territory damaged by the storm?”
“Yes.”
“I’m so sorry… I hope Starclan helps your Clan more…”
“So how have you been?”
“Eh… I’d rather not say.”
“Why not?”
“It revolves around…. Family issues.”
Flutterstar cocked her head. Before she could say a word, Quartzfur reappeared, looking sad.
“What’s wrong?” asked Flutterstar.
“They agreed that I should wait.” She sighed.
“Till when?”
“After 3 moons have passed.”
“... Why’s that?”
“So that they have more time…”
She schooched closer. “Who and for what?”
“The medicine cats need time to find out what Starclan truly meant with the lighting strike.”
“Oh…”
“Yes,” Quartzfur cooly licked her chest, “Anyway… The moon is rising. Shouldn’t you head home?”
Flutterstar got up. “That’s not a bad idea.” Jasperwhisker nodded.
“Safe travels.” She mewed.
“Thank you.”

Outside of the cave, it was moist and warm. The sky was turning into a pink swirl. Flutterstar walked towards the border. The border was stained with the distant smell of blood, yet strong with frogien strangers. She stepped onto her territory. The distant yowls and cries of her clan mates roared out, overpowering the sound of the light rain. The yellow she-cat broke into a run. In the camp, it was a mess. Cats were invading her Clan. A large she-cat laid in Flutterstar’s den.
Flutterstar growled. “Who are you and why are you in my den?”
“I’m the new deputy,” The forgien cat just glanced up.
“Since when? I’m the leader here. I make the decisions.”
“Not anymore,” She smirked and stood up.
“Is that a challenge?”
“Yes.” Bearflinch swiftly jumped at her and held her down.
Flutterstar hissed and bit down on the she-cat’s leg. Bearflinch yowled and clawed her shoulder, then snake the attack to her chest.
Flutterstar yowled out loud, hoping one of her Clanmates would hear. Flowerfoot yowled back and raced to the leader.
“Oceanfoot! Applepaw! Quick!”
Applepaw rammed his head into the side of Bearflinch. Flowerfoot battered the attackers head. Bearflinch yowled and was driven into the side of the cave.
Flutterstar, despite being smaller than the she-cat, grabbed her scruff and dossed her out of the den. Bearfinch bowled out a cry. It rang throughout the camp.
Ice looked up from eating his prey. “What was that?”
Milk sniffed, “Flutterstar.”
“Already?”
“Yes. There beating Bearflinch.”
“Go intervene.” Ice flicked his tail.
“I-I can’t!”
The big tom growled. “Do I have to make you?”
Milk winced, and ran out to the yellow she-cat with pink eyes. She pounced on the leader and bit down on her.
Flutterstar screeched and she began to struggle less. Milk foolishly let go, and let out a yowl of victory. Flutterstar slumped onto the ground, her bite marks bleeding. Bearflinch smirked, and bit down on her throat. The yellow she-cat yowled and fell limp.
“She’s losing a life…” Applepaw mewed.
“BECAUSE OF YOU!” Oceanfoot snapped, and hopped on top of Bearflinch, yowling.
Applepaw pushed through his grief and attacked her too. Bearflinch yowled for backup. Milk jumped on top of Applepaw. The black and white young tom scrambled to get away. Milk chased him and chomped on his leg. Applepaw yowled and scratched her face. Milk recoiled back and fell onto her back, revealing her soft underbelly. Applepaw took this chance and ran but Goldenbreeze held him down. Milk took her time to get up with her injured back and face. Bearflinch took to Goldenbreeze’s side and slashed him. Bearclaw swiftly knocked Goldenbreeze down with Flowerfoot following by biting her scruff.
As Bearflinch headed for Applepaw’s throat, Robin spoke. “Bearflinch, STOP.” He almost regretted stepping out of his timidness as all the eyes were on him.
Bearflinch claws rested closely on Applepaws neck, his fate on her claws. “Tell me why.” She hissed.
The tom gulped. “Er- Because I said so.”
“ICE!” She hissed, “What do you say?”
The big black tom jumped over, making Robin feel very small. Bearflinch stared down at Robin, her eyes blazing.
Ice was silent for a few heartbeats. “No more killing. Not until I say it’s ok.”
