bro i am currently arguing with a. likely young teenager about whether or not shein sells real fur furry tails and im like. no the fsck they arent theres no way anyone could turn a profit on $4 real fur. and shes like noo it totally is i know because i like taxidermy as a hobby and its like yeah thats. cool n shit but you also have to think about basic economics. unethically farmed fur can sell for WAY WAY MORE than $4 so why would you do that. its not about economies of scale because there arent THAT many 14 year olds with mommys credit card living out their wolf dreams by buying this

also im gonna be so real not a vegan but is any fur ethical? i have no issue with leather because the whole cow is being used you know? im eating beef and the other parts are getting ground down for other stuff like no part of that animal is going to waste, plus meat animals are domesticated and would never survive in the wild. HOWEVER what are we doing with a mink or a fox besides skinning it? vintage fur exists there is no reason to promote buying new when 9 times out of 10 its going to be shit quality in comparison to something old. like, my vintage beaver piece is literally 70 years old and feels like new, aside from the faint smell of a probably very cool 50s woman cigarettes. and buying new fur, supporting animals being killed for literally just aesthetics and no other reason because you... feel like a fox inside? seriously that is unethical just on concept. if you arent comfortable with the thought of going out and hunting an animal yourself JUST FOR ITS TAIL you shouldnt be buying it. jfc
im not saying everyone needs to be ready to shoot animals in order to consume/use them but i am comfortable with the thought of a cow dying for my leather. i can (and do) look cows in the eyes and say "youre gonna be my hamburger soon :3" and i dont want to be the one with the bolt gun but its honestly fine with me that it happens. however, would i want to look a fox in the face and say "youre going to be my entirely unnecessary aesthetic item and nothing else" uhhh not really. sorry. the silhouettes of fur items being produced in current year are the same as the vintage fur silhouettes bc fur is a vintage inspired piece in the first place.
