Linklore related animal species lmao
they live in the ground in large flocks, normally residing in giant caverns they continue to expand. They can dig!! they make all sorts of tunnels :]
apex predators of the subterranean! the only reason they would die would be because of starvation, dehydration, other natural body problems, or collapsing caverns (in which they'd die of suffocation)
Cave hydras are occasionally tamed, but it is quite difficult due to their size and unpredictable behavior.
they don't really have bones, it's like durable cartilage. this makes them bendy and squirmy to fit between small crags in the rocks and makes it possible for them to fly

Linktheir top set of eyes is for the dark underground (because of how extremely dilated the pupil is) while the bottom set is for whenever they're above ground. their eyelids are thick so the surface's light doesn't harm the upper set of eyes.
they hunt either using a little tunnel in thick, tall grasslands to snatch unsuspecting prey, or by raiding other animals who live underground.

Linkduring adolescence they start developing the bright patterning along their body. no two cave hydras have the same pattern! when breeding season comes along, whichever cave hydra looks the best groomed and has the most impressive appearance and size will have a much higher chance of attracting females
their heads each have one half of the brain. left head is smarter, right is more creative, blah blah blah psychological stuff i won't explain atm.
