Here's a mention before we move to the serious stuff... NEW CHARACTER ALERRRRTTT! Twig is a character I've ENTIRELY ravamped from his original shown here ---> His old name was Toshinaro, and he was a... demon. Seem familiar? YEAH, IT SHOULD. BECAUSE WHY THE FRICK DID I THINK MAKING KEEGAN'S LOVE INTEREST WAS A GOOD IDEA WHEN THAT'S LITERALLY KEITH AND MARKUS' WHOLE THING? SO! To avoid that reused bullcrap, I decided to turn Toshinaro into a GOAT BOY! This makes A LOOOT more sense for his character, personality, and backstory... seeing as though he's an orphan whose parents were killed BY demons. This was my first time ever coloring this version of him, so it took a couple tries getting used to his color palette. Part of me wanted his hair and fur to be white, but a light cream meshed better with his skintone, so that's what I went with instead. I wasn't going to whitewash this poor boy just because I couldn't figure out basic color theory. 🙄

With that out of the way, we move onto the serious topic of this sketch sesh... The fifth drawing in this collage is a scene immediately following Catherine's sexual assault done in by Darkness. I've never drawn this scene before, simply because I never quite knew how to. There was no way I could safely frame it without making others uncomfortable, nor without drawing the scene itself; which I doubt I'll ever do in full without censoring it with different camera angles and closeup shots avoiding the obvious. It's possibly the most sensitive scene in the entire series, I believe-- and the core driving factor to the plot moving forward. I thought the best way to frame this scene specifically was to do it through Vlad's POV, who I've only added to the mix very recently. Originally, it was Jax and Cathy's sons who find her first, but I think Vlad being the first responder would drive forth a more powerful dynamic for them in the future. After Jax and Cathy's split, Vlad takes on the role of co-parenting Dylan--

--whose conception takes place during this unfortunate turn of events. This change also better defines Vlad and Dylan's relationship as child and parental figure. Unlike Jax who came to the scene late, Vlad was THERE. Vlad was PRESENT. Vlad SAW what Darkness did to Cathy, and what came of it. In contrast to Jax who VICTIM BLAMES throughout the story, what I really want from Vlad being in this scene is to represent positive masculinity in a woman's vulnerable, traumatizing r*pe story-- versus the toxicity of Jax's victim blaming, slut shaming, narcissistic take on the matter. And I hope one day I can write and convey that in a sensitive, mature way for potential audiences in the future.

LORD THAT WAS SOME HEAVY SHIT. BUT IT'S A HEAVY TOPIC THAT I NEED to be sensitive about, without a doubt. It's going to be hard juggling all of these important story-driving points with Keith and Markus' love story, BECAUSE ALL OF IT IS SO IMPORTANT TO THE PLOT. Keegan is the first to run away because of the fear of being told to kill HIS OWN BABY BROTHER-- Erin's strained relationship with Cathy after she births the child of the creature that ENDED HIS ENTIRE RACE-- Keith's struggle to keep up with his parent's expectations, when BOTH of them are in the wrong, ultimately leading to him run away to be with Markus-- and Jax and Cathy's divorce rooted from the simple fact... Jax was FORCING Cathy to terminate her false child, Cathy morally COULD NOT STAND FOR ABORTION, Jaxon's DEEP-ROOTED TRAUMA of Darkness clouds his perception that HIS WIFE BEING R*PED IS NOWHERE NEAR HER FAULT-- BUT HIS PRIDE AS A MAN IS WOUNDED BECAUSE CATHERINE'S CHOICE OVER HER BODY MENTALLY DOESN'T SIT WITH HIS MYSOGINISTIC VIEWPOINT

Okay I'm done now. 😊 This story is A LOT more serious than Keith's silly self-healing adventures with his future demon boyfriend. NOOOOOOO, it is HEAPS more serious than that simple concept, and I cannot WAIT to one day write it all out in full-- when I eventually decide to sit down and, y'know... write.
