the scars
they're not edgy self harm scars (well technically he did do them himself??) it has to do with distracting the zombie like creatures with the scent of blood, many of the survivors use the tactic of cutting themselves and flicking the blood somewhere because the creatures will spend a solid minute sniffing at it.
So basically the more scars someone has, the more encounters they've had with the creatures.

On the bus listening to music
and I randomly start thinking of like a zombie apocalypse AU thing. And it's just so ****ing sad cuz like
A ton of the population die and the angel organization has to go somewhere with the remaining staff (and their families) and it's like crazy..also spoilers I imagined Ricky dies (and Shade dies protecting her, ya'll prob don't remember who Shade is, super sad though because they admit defeat after he runs out of bullets and they just sort of hold each other until they die) anyway Ricky dies and it tears Cyrus and Nova apart and Chart Guy is a wreck (because Shade was his husband E) and it's just
p' epic but also really edgy and sad.
