LinkThis is true
Beowulf sat by the fire, his once-proud figure slumped with exhaustion. Taliesin watched him, silent, his fingers hovering over his harp but not playing.
“Do you regret it?” Taliesin asked quietly, breaking the stillness.
Beowulf’s eyes didn’t leave the flames. “What would I have done instead?”
Taliesin’s gaze was sad. “Live without blood. Without killing.”
Beowulf’s laugh was hollow. “I don’t know how.”
Taliesin sighed, his voice barely a whisper. “Then we’re both lost.”
There was no answer. Only the crackle of the fire, and the weight of their shared silence.
Beowulf sat by the fire, his gaze distant. Taliesin, silent until now, stepped closer, his eyes fixed on the warrior.
“You carry more than just your sword,” Taliesin murmured.
Beowulf turned his head, meeting his gaze. “And you think you know what’s inside me?”
Taliesin didn’t answer with words. He stepped in, closing the space between them, and kissed him. It was soft at first, testing the waters, but Beowulf’s hands gripped his waist, pulling him closer. The kiss deepened, urgent now, as if neither man could stop it even if they wanted to.
The world around them disappeared, leaving only the heat of their bodies and the taste of something new, something neither of them had ever allowed themselves before.
The wind roared around them as Beowulf and Taliesin stood on the shore, the sea stretching out before them.
Taliesin’s voice trembled, soft but certain. “Are you sure?”
Beowulf’s hand cupped his face gently, his eyes unwavering. “I’ve faced everything else. This is the one thing I know I want.”
No more words were needed. Taliesin leaned in, closing the distance between them. Their lips met—slow at first, then deepening with a hunger that neither had expected. When they finally pulled back, breathless, Beowulf smiled.
“Together?” he asked.
Taliesin nodded. “Always.”
