Icarus was down in his lab, working on an invention. He hoped it would revolutionize science and technology, but he needed to get it working first. “Hey daddy! Dinner’s ready!” a child, his adoptive daughter Christine, called down to him from the doorway down into the lab. “Alright, I’ll be up in a second,” Icarus responded as he got up. He took his lab coat off and set it down on a chair, soon heading up the steps into the kitchen. Once in there he gave a hug to his husband, Bernard. “Hey, how is your project going?” Bernard asked with a smile and a kiss. Icarus kissed back and replied, “It’s going great! Should be finished with it in the next few days, then I just need to-“ His daughter interjected before he could finish his sentence, “You promised me we were going to go to the carnival!” He just let out a chuckle, “Don’t worry, I didn’t forget, we are indeed going tomorrow.” He pat his daughter on the head before getting some food. Later that night he was back in the lab, working on his machine.

He pressed a button on the machine, and waited, and waited, and waited, before the machine started smoking and broke. Frantically he went and stopped the machine trying to figure out what was wrong, but unbeknownst to him someone had sabotaged it. He would learn much too late that it was the cause of Ixel, the god of secrets, who broke his machine. Several days had passed since the carnival, and Icarus was outside of the house waiting for Bernard to walk home. Soon enough Bernard came into view, but unknown to both of them, a drunk driver was nearby and soon turned onto the street Bernard was on. Bernard went to cross the street, expecting the car to stop. The car did not stop as it turned into Bernard at full speed. Icarus saw this and stood there in shock. Bernard layed there in the road, unconscious and bleeding heavily. Soon after Icarus snapped out of his shock and called for an ambulance as he ran over to his husband, holding Bernard in his arms.

The ambulance arrived shortly and took Bernard and Icarus to the hospital. On the ride to the hospital Bernard died. Icarus spent that night locked in his room crying. A few weeks later while planning Bernard’s funeral another tragedy hit the man. He heard a knock on the door, and when he answered it he saw a police officer in front of him. “Is everything alright officer?” He asked. The officer gave a sigh, “Sir, I am sorry to inform you that your daughter,” the officer paused before continuing, “your daughter has been found dead” “W-what? There has to be some sort of mistake, she was just at her friends house a few hours ago.” Icarus could not believe what he was just told. “Your daughter was found moments ago, she was found with several stab wounds in her chest and her clothes ripped off. The culprit has yet to be found.” Icarus stood there dumbfounded, and terrified. Later that day he got to see his now dead daughter. The police never found who murdered Christine.

A month later and he had two funerals for his husband and his daughter. During this time his scientific focus turned towards trying to bring his family back. The science institute he worked at eventually fired him for this. He was returning home when he saw smoke rising in the area where his house is. Running quickly, he got near the house, only to see it and several other houses burned down. People would soon find out that there where only 3 casualties in this large fire. Icarus lost everything. He lost his family, his life, his home, everything. He blamed forces beyond him, even though he was atheist. He went and found an abandoned lab and made it his new home and workplace. He lived in solitude for a long time. All that time alone was used to try and bring back his family. Soon that was given up for something else, the power to reset the world as he pleased. He gave up the name of Icarus, adopting the name of Scorp, and putting on a mask he would never take off.

Ixel had seen all of this, orchestrating it actually. The god punished those he thought got too close to a secret he didn’t want learned. Ophelia would berate him for his punishments, thinking the god of secrets took things too far. Ixel didn’t care, he wanted his secrets kept. He had broken the machine. He had made the drunk driver kill Bernard. He brought Christine to her murderer. He had brought one person to burn down the neighborhood. All to punish the man who got too close to his secrets. This is one of the first times he intervened in the timelines, he liked the chaos that ensued though, so he did it with others.
