John looked up at the sky’s sunset and it reminded him of a night long ago when he was fresh out of highschool. A night that no one would believe happened. The night that he died. It was the early 90’s in california he was out with some friends surfing to celebrate the end of highschool and the start of their lives. The sun was going down casting a warm ray of light over the beach. John had gone out to the waves by himself. He paddled out half a mile off shore when he saw her... she had beautiful red hair that reminded John of a campfire and she was sitting on a huge rock jutting out of the sea. “Hey there” John yelled hoping she would hear him over the roar of the ocean. He swam with his board to the rock so that he could hear her response. She didn’t respond though only smiled and waved. John started to climb up the rock with extreme ease because even though it was in the ocean it wasn’t wet at all, something he didn’t pay attention to at the time.

When he got to the top of the rock he was amazed even more by the mysterious lady. Her hair was long going all the way down her back, her skin glistened off the fading sun looking practically see through something reminiscent of a fish. She was wearing a light blue dress with flowy sleeves and a slit at the bottom going half way up her leg. She wasn't wearing shoes, another detail John paid no attention to. John turned around for a moment to look at the shore which he realized he couldn't see. He couldn’t see his friends or the huge city that bordered the sea nor could he see anything but ocean. Dark blue endless ocean.The thought unsettled him but he shook it off. “Hi there” John turned around to see that the girl was only two feet away “You’re a pretty one” her voice was sing songy “Ummm..thank you” John responded confused on how she had gotten so close to him so quickly. She smiled “Well you’re welcome. I'm Lorelie, what's your name?” she said, inching closer to him.

“Johny” He said smirking at the girls odd name “That's just a lovely name” Lorelei said getting so close to him that he had to back all the way up to the edge of the rock “You know” she looked up at him “You're not the only John Ive met out here in all these years” “That's not too surprising there were seven Johns in my grade alone while I was in highschool” he responded thinking nothing of the mere inches he was away from falling into the ocean 50 feet below him. Lorelie had a puzzled look on her face “I've never heard of a highschool before” she inched even closer to him “Really that's so weird” John now was the one with a puzzled look on his face not understanding how someone who was his age or maybe older had never heard of highschool “Not really.” Lorelie put her hand on his shoulder “Not really at all” She said right before she pushed him off the edge of the rock taking him and herself to the ocean.

The water hit them both frigid and salty. Lorelie no longer being beautiful but instead terrifying with completely black eyes and gills that accompanied her webbed hands. She opened her mouth that was now full of white sharp teeth and she sang. She sang something so beautiful that John didn’t care that she was terrifying, he didn't care that she was dragging him to the bottom of the ocean and he didn’t care that she was a siren. A siren that caused his death. John looked up through the water to see a beautiful sunset that reminded him of the day 25 years ago when he died.
