LinkYour OC is friends with Ivan. Ivan had invited you to his birthday, and you promised to come. The next day (his birthday) you'd forgotten completely about it, instead hanging out with other friends. It was the day after when you remembered. You also knew that nobody else he invited had came.
"Shit," was all he could mutter out, as he laid in bed with only his thoughts.
He had forgotten about Ivan's birthday.
There's nothing as heartbreaking as forgetting the birthday of a friend, Ryan thought. There's surely nothing that'd make one feel as much regret as that would.
He laid still in his bed in the middle of the night. Then, he turned, his fingers and toes fidgeting with no calming in sight. He turned again and bit his nail as thoughts ran rampant through his mind. What should he do now? There's nothing else.
He turned. But there was. His phone. He grabbed it, and with a blurry sight of sleepiness, he clicked on Ivan's contact before texting him.
"I'm sorry for not coming to your birthday."
He couldn't say he had forgotten. That'd be rude, wouldn't it?
"I ran into some problems yesterday..."
He sent the message. He expected no response.
Ivan was staring at the cieling, unable to sleep, when his phone went off.
"Hm?" He tilted his head towards his phone. Once he read the notification he sighed, reaching over and grabbing his phone. He sat for a moment, unable to think of a response.
He sighed again before responding with "It's alright."
It's alright, Ivan had replied. But was it really alright?
He pressed the power button in his phone, causing the screen to turn off. He pressed it again, and stared at the lock screen.
Should he ask? No, why should he? For many reasons, but he'd like not to think about them.
He unlocked his phone and opened Ivan's chat once again.
"I hope you had fun with the others."
As slow as he had typed that out, he tapped the send button all too fast.
He pursed his lips. All he could do now was to sleep, even with this dark, swirling feeling in his stomach that caused his mind to have thoughts he didn't need to hear. Maybe it was just purely embarrassment and not regret.
He pressed the power button of his phone once again, and the screen went black. He put it on his chest, and closed his eyes.
It didn't feel like sleep was near.
Was it really that bad of a situation? He couldn't help but wonder. It most likely isn't. Is he making a big deal out of it? That's the most probable conclusion.
He stared at Ryan's last message.
"I hope you had fun with the others."
His eyebrows twitched together. It felt like that message was taunting him.
"Nobody came." He typed, then let his thumb hover over the send button. It felt wrong to send that sort of thing, but at the same...
No. He shut his phone off and set it back down on the table besides his bed without sending or deleting the message, and turned away from it.
He grabbed his phone and turned it on. No response.
He probably fell asleep. There's no use thinking about it. Then why was his head filled of those thoughts?
He couldn't help it. They come and go without his consent.
This wasn't a big deal. What made him feel so guilty? He just didn't go to one birthday, what was that compared to everything he's done for him?
Has he done anything for Lucas?
His thoughts derailed. He had to stop them. He squeezed his eyes shut, and the momentary nerves that brought changed his thoughts.
He sighed. He only could sleep now. He'll talk to Ivan tomorrow.
With that decision, he tried to fall asleep. Yet, he couldn't but struggle. The night passed, with him only having an ounce of sleep.
Ivan had already given up on trying to sleep. He stare at the wall besides his bed, even as he felt the warm sun rise.
He sighed and sat up in bed, his gaze turned to his phone almost immediately.
He picked up his phone and turned it on. The first thing that greeted him was his unsent message from the night before. He stared at it for a minute before clicking send and immediately shut his phone off.
"Nobody came."
He couldn't help but wonder what Ryan would respond with.
Sorry for the horribly late response.)
His eyes opened, and bright light came in through a window along with summer's heat that hit him like a truck. He wrinkled his nose as he sat up on his side, before seeing his phone light up.
He'd forgotten to close the curtains and turn off his phone. How great, his responsibility.
He winced, and grabbed his phone. Ivan had replied.
"Nobody came."
Doing nothing more than staring at it for a second, he sighed and closed his eyes, a yawn coming up as they teared up and sleep tried to drag him down even further.
He pursed his lips and slightly shook his head. What can he do now? What can he, really?
He'd have to go visit Ivan. Will it feel like he's pitying him? Ryan isn't sure. He won't think about it.
With a slight headache and abundant drowsiness, he dressed himself up and left to Ivan's house.
