yh i know people do trades with new ocs and they do that for fun but still so cruel?!

i don’t trade ocs per se it’s usually just random designs i threw together
usually they don’t have any info about them yet so the person getting them can choose it themselves
most of the time designs are made specifically to be traded away. just blank canvases of characters. when people trade older ocs they own they often have lost their previous attachment with it and want to let someone breathe some fresh air into it, at least in my case that is true.
and I also like to think "how are they mischaracterizing an oc that is now theirs?" I think people can do whatever they wish with what they are traded, so long as it makes them happy and they're putting it to use. I like seeing other people's ideas for characters they are given, whether or not they have a preexisting story. c:
a character made specifically just for trade doesn't feel like a "character" at all, it feels more like an object. rather than doing something like that, wouldn't it make more sense to take inspiration from someone who genuinely loved the character and create your own?
i get the "fresh start" stuff and i'd like to see other's opinion and ideas on my (UHH i meant their) oc, however trading them like tokens... IDK. i'm not complaining btw, just didn't like the "get someone else's thrown unfinished work and improve it" idea
It can also be design trades in general (as in, non-written OCs), so there isn’t really any risk of mischaracterization hrhe
