Karkat and Dave were sitting on the roof. Karkat wasn't sure why they were there, but as soon as Dave's parents went out for the night, he got a text inviting him to sit on the roof. He hadn't predicted a spring night like this to be so cold, so he was only in a baseball tee and the sweater he took from Kankri's closet.
It's not just that they were out, that's why he had tried to get in touch with Karkat, his face was soft and quiet, the color looked like it had been sucked up with a syringe. The normal light in his cheeks was completely gone.
Dave simply shrugged, he had no energy left within in him to say even a single word.
He looked at the the tiled roof below his feet and sighed, rubbing the back of his neck, "It's a whole lot."
". . . Well apparently they just don't care anymore," he mumbled, "they're setting up lawyers to get divorced, and since Dirk semi paid for the house they are gonna leave me with him, and I just." He sighed.
This was quite clearly not what Karkat planned for. this was quite clearly a situation he wasn't prepared to deal with. And, quite clearly, Karkat didn't care about that. All he cared about was that his best friend's life was upheaving during his last year in this shitty town.
He flinched at the touch, but still curled up like nothing had happened, "Yeah, that's what everyone's been telling me." He grumbled, rubbed the sides of his arms.
He watched him and called after, "Yeah, got my ass beat for it." He hopped off himself, tumbling onto his ass. It seemed like it hurt, but he obviously blew it off.
He looked up at him with a small smirk, "Dude we've been over this, you're underage." He snickered at his joke.
"I can only cut into your skull so much, dude," He smiled.
