yello, welcome this this is something that I honestly wanted to say 😔✋ nice to meet you, I'm Hexe, and I'm here to give you a huge resource on goth vs emo + how to make a good gothic oc. because let me tell you, your black wearing big titty goth girlfriend ocs may not actually be goth. anywho, here we go. 1)The history of goth goth, as a culture began as a music genre, not a fashion statement. goth formed in the late 70s early 80s in the UK. goth rock emerged from the post punk movement, which included groups such as joy division, and Souixsie and the Banshees. However, the first goth track, to predate the term would be "the end" by the doors. however the genre was not established until the release of "Bela Lugosi's Dead" Bauhaus' debut single. since the release of that, several bands formed, such as The Cure, or evolved to suit the term, like Souixsie and the Banshees. -goth is NOT a mindset, just liking spooky things does not and will not make you "goth" although things like that go alongside goth, they are not signature to the gothic culture. In league with that, liking horror stories and gothic architecture does not automatically make you goth ether, those things, such as Dracula, and Roman cathedrals may be classified as "gothic" but you for liking those things are not. 3) fashion/ sub-cultures there's several different classifications of goth, such as Romantic goth, trad goth, and pastel goth. here's some information on those three - Romantic goth! romantic goth is one of the types of goths that will focus on fashion, so if fashion is your thing, pay attention kids! romantic goth is closely asscoatied with Victorian Fashion, lace and romance. it's main focus is on experessing ones self through art. they are often seen as happier, and lighter goths. common imagery for these goths include red wine, graveyards, gothic jewelry lace and gardens.

trad goth trad or traditional goth, are the goths who are extremely music focused, they're also the reason the subculture was able to stick around for such a long time, the common elements of a trad goth include big hair and stark makeup.
