The umbraxy is a creature most commonly found in the south part of the milky way. Like chameleons, they can change their colors to blend in to their surroundings. As they live in dark space, they have bioluminescent markings all over their body, and have four large eyes for seeing in the dark. The fur on their bodies is layered, as to keep them warm in the very cold space. They are able to close the holes in their noses, much like the blowholes on a dolphin or whale. They'll stop on planets to get air, much like a whale goes to the surface.

They make sounds similar to barks and meows, but it isn't heard easily in space. As a result, the umbraxy has multiple large ears, allowing them to hear their surroundings. They are built sleek and snake-like, allowing them to easily maneuver through asteroid fields and the like. Although the umbraxy mainly depends on sunlight to survive (much like plants) they will sometimes hunt any other creatures they find along their travels.

The umbraxy will often sleep on randomly floating objects in space. Curling their bodies around the object, they're often carried wherever the object goes. As there is no such thing as day and night in space, the umbraxy simply sleeps whenever it's tired.

The way you can tell a female and male umbraxy apart is the constellations found over their heads. Females will have a constellation that makes a small, rectangular crown. Males' constellations are in the form of pointy crowns.

Most umbraxy mate with whoever they deem worthy. As they can reproduce asexually, they don't usually count on finding a mate of different gender. Although sexual reproduction is something they can do, they mainly just find a random mate.

Umbraxy mate for life, and are very defensive of one another. When they have a calf (or more) they will stay with that calf through half of its life. Eventually, the calf will split from its parents and start a life of its own. However, umbraxy calves will often seek help from their parents long after separation. Some will even choose to always stay with their mothers and fathers.

Although the umbraxy usually stays with its mate or calf only, some will form packs. The event usually happens when an umbraxy has been crippled, or is born as such. In an attempt to keep the injured/unique umbraxy safe, they'll form packs in order to protect them. This can happen with orphaned calves, elder umbraxi, or disabled umbraxi.

An umbraxy's lifespan varies from 50-89 years in human time. When they die, they often bury each other. They'll gather loved ones, and will make numerous noises into the emptiness of space, as if to mourn the fallen umbraxy.

Unless you use selective breeding on an umbraxy, there is no way to fully domesticate it. No matter what environment you put an umbraxy in, expect it to take random trips into space whenever it's off a leash.

The size of an umbraxy is about the same as a medium-sized horse. Not only that, but their speed is similar as well.

The way that an umbraxy moves on land is much like the movements of a dachshund. However, when moving around in space, they move more similarly to sharks.

The accessory-like parts of the umbraxy behave much like a firefly's backside. They are meant to attract other umbraxy, usually for mating. However, the call can vary. If the umbraxy flaps its ears to move them around, the call means 'i found something'. The different movements of the 'accessory' have different meanings. It's their way of communicating from long distances.

The colors are usually the first ones that come to mind when you think 'space'. Although some can often have extra melanin, or be born as an albino.
